Mental health literacy (MHL) involves students' understanding of age-appropriate mental health concepts and challenges, awareness of how stigma affects mental health, direction for available resources, and development of coping strategies and healthy routines.

Restorative Practices and SEL Alignment

This tool is intended to assist educators in understanding the connection between social and emotional learning (SEL) and restorative practices (RP). Understanding how RP provides opportunities to develop, practice, and reinforce SEL competencies.Implementing SEL and RP together using the following schoolwide strategies: a. Align under a single initiative b. Integrate preventive practices into all aspects of a school c. Establish restorative responses to behavior that promote SEL d. Develop mutually reinforcing RP and SEL skills and mindsets among staff and students e. Involve students, families, and community partners in SEL and RP initiatives Please note: formal restorative practices, such as circles for conflict resolution or healing, should only be facilitated by fully trained restorative practitioners – this tool was created to support alignment, and is not a substitute for formal training.
